“The Light That Failed” is a novel written by Kipling, written when he was 25 years old. The story focuses on the character of Dick Ralff – a self-portrait of Kipling – and about unrequited love for, Maisie, his childhood Playmate. Children are both under the repressive and cruel treatment of Mrs Jennet. Dick later becomes a successful artist through for his illustrations of the wartime campaign in Sudan. In Sudan he met Dick Gilbert Torpenhow, the corresponding Central South Union, which is instrumental in spreading the reputation of Dick. They are committed and they promise to keep in touch.
