I erindringsværket "Underdrejet. Fra Limfjorden til Grønlands kyst" fortæller Niels L. Underbjerg om sit begivenhedsrige liv, som bød på mange rejse-eventyr. Niels vokser op under beskedne forhold i en børnerig fiskerfamilie ved Limfjorden og kom allerede som 10-årig ud at tjene. Som ung mand fik han arbejde som havfisker i Nordsøen under krigen, og han beretter også om modstandskampen og om tiden som soldat i den engelske hær i Indien og Nordafrika. Senere sejlede han med Hakon Mielche på Santa Maria II, men som 29-årig  ankom han til Grønland, og det blev hans hjem de næste 25 år.<br><br>Niels Larsen Underbjerg (1921-1988) var en dansk skibsfører. Han har nedfældet sine erindringer i bøgerne "Underdrejet. Fra Limfjorden til Grønlands kyst" og "Ved solens gæstested. Grønlandsoplevelser".
