A Study in Scarlet was first published in 1887. The story is the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, the world’s most famous fictional detective duo. Dr. Watson, who has just returned from a war in Afghanistan, meets Sherlock Holmes for the first time when they become flat-mates at 221 B Baker Street.
