Lucy must decide if she will compete for a scholarship, but she must also define her relationships with her family, her friends, and with her fresh love. When the novel first appeared in 1989, it was short-listed for the Ruth Schwartz Children's Literature Award, for the Canadian Library Association's Children Awrad, and for the Governor General's Literary Award for Children's Literature.
