Wilson Kipketer kom til Danmark fra sit fødeland Kenya i 1990 for at læse på universitetet og udvikle sig som løber. Fra 1994 og frem var han at finde blandt verdens allerbedste 800 meter-løbere, og han er den dag i dag indehaver af flere verdensrekorder. Men selvom Wilson Kipketer skabte sig en strålende karriere, var det svært for ham at skjule, at han havde svært ved at falde til i Danmark. I biografien "Wilson Kipketer", der udkom første gang i 1998, giver sportsjournalist Lars Werge et indblik i mennesket og løberen Wilson Kipketer. Lars Werge (f. 1966) er tidligere højdespringer, journalist og politiker. Han har skrevet flere bøger om sport og kendte idrætsfolk og blev i 2006 kåret som Årets Sportsjournalist.
