I januar 1987 meddelte en husejer på Amager, at han i en kasse på loftet havde fundet 21 hidtil ukendte noveller af Leif Panduro. De var efterladt af husets forrige ejer, Panduros svoger, der i en periode havde fungeret som "litterær agent". Novellerne er skrevet før den egentlige debut og giver en forsmag på de temaer, der senere skal præge hele forfatterskabet. Allerede her fokuserer Panduro på menneskers famlende og usikre forhold til kærlighed, ægteskab og borgerlige normer. Bare det hele var anderledes viser, at det personlige udtryk tidligt lægges fast. Novellerne giver nok billedet af en ung forfatter, men de er i deres tone og stil så helt igennem panduroske.
