En noviembre de 2006, celebrando el centenario de su nacimiento, tuvo lugar el congreso internacional Lévinas, la Filosofía como Ética. Organizado conjuntamente por el MUVIM y la Universitat de València; este volumen recoge las actas de dicha reunión acedémica. Un recorrido a través del pensamiento de Lévinas: su posición dentro y fuera de la filosofía, la torsión del concepto tradicional de ética o de lenguaje, la convergencia o divergencia de la ética y la política, así como las raíces judías de su pensamiento. Hay algo de arriesgado en la celebración del congreso; son escasos los investigadores que estudian a este filósofo, por lo que un congreso que los reúna a prácticamente todos constituye un acontecimiento en los estudios sobre Lévinas, al mismo tiempo que un libro que contenga las conferencias de dicho acto deviene un hito filosófico en lengua castellana.
