"Jason med det gyldne skind" er den første naturalistiske roman i dansk litteratur. <br><br>Vilhelm Topsøe (1840-1881) var en dansk forfatter og journalist. Han var reformvenlig men konservativ og blev af tidens andre ånder holdt lidt ude i kulden. Om Vilhelm Topsøes bøger gælder stadig Harald Nielsens ord, at de altid vil finde en snæver kreds af læsere, der "vil hviske hans Navn til dem, hvis Hjærte kan banke ved stille Lyrik, og hvis Tanker er skarpe og fine nok til at nyde en forfinet og sart Menneskeviden". Han er påvirket af Charles Darwin, Gustave Flaubert og Charles Dickens
