Akateemikko Kirsi Kunnas (1924–2021) oli modernin suomalaisen lastenkirjallisuuden uranuurtaja ja rakastetuimpia kirjailijoitamme. Helsingissä taiteilijaperheeseen syntyneen Kirsi Kunnaksen ensimmäinen runoteos ilmestyi vuonna 1947. Lapsille hän ryhtyi kirjoittamaan 1950-luvulla. Kirsi Kunnas julkaisi satuja, loruja, nukkenäytelmiä sekä aapisia ja lukukirjoja. Hän myös käänsi suomeksi useita lastenkirjoja sekä -runokokoelmia.
