Helenas första kärlek gavs ut första gången 1918 och var hennes andra publicerade roman. Boken skildrar en ung överklassflicka i Stockholm i början av 1900-talet. Agnes von Krusenstjerna (1894-1940) blev under sin tid stämplad av de konservativa som en dekadent och trivial författare. Hennes verk satte igång stora svallvågor kring de moraliska normerna, framförallt vad gällde kvinnors rättighet att uttrycka sig fritt och kampen kring en friare sexualmoral.
