Alfred Jarrys ikoniska gestalt Far Ubu kännetecknar »allt det groteska i världen«. Karaktären skapade ramaskri när han 1896 första gången såg dagens ljus i pjäsen Kung Ubu [Roi Ubu]. Publiken tyckte att pjäsen var bisarr och obscen men stycket hade stor genomslagskraft, och blev den första av flera pjäser om Far Ubu. 	I översättning av Sture Pyk. ALFRED JARRY [1873-1907] var en fransk författare som under sitt korta liv hade enormt inflytande på flera modernistiska strömningar under 1900-talet. Jarry rörde sig i symbolistiska kretsar i Paris. Som tjugotreåring skrev han Kung Ubu. Pjäsen betraktas som ett tidigt exempel på surrealism och dadaism, och det var med den som konceptet patafysik myntades.
