Det var strax efter nyår som fartyget Ningpo lämnade Göteborgs hamn och begav sig ut på sin fjärde resa över världshaven. Ombord fanns en besättning på trettio man som snart skulle befinna sig mitt i ett brinnande krig, och det skulle dröja sex år innan de fick återse sitt hemland. "SOS... Ningpo" är en dokumentär skildring av ett svenskt fraktfartygs förehavanden under andra världskriget. Börje Heed (1921-1996) var en svensk journalist, radioman och författare. Han gjorde sig framförallt känd som kriminalreporter och hördes bland annat i radioserien "Brottsplats Stockholm". Han var även verksam på Aftonbladet mellan 1947 och 1981.
