The “red saint” is a red-haired amateur hermitess who works wonders of healing. A romance develops between her and a noble. She is attacked by a supporter of the King, then is accessioned to the abbey but becomes a humiliation to the monks who drive her out. She escapes and it seems she will fall again into the hands of the King’s supporter but is rescued by her lover of old.
