Haiku er en japansk lyrikform med strenge formkriterier. Haiku opstod i 1600-tallets Japan, hvorfra især digteren Matsuo Basho kendes. Digtformen har undergået forandringer og fornyelser i takt med dens udbredelse til resten af verden. Haiku skaber stemninger med få ord og beskriver lyde, syn eller følelser på en simpel måde. Disse særpræg gør Haiku både dybe og simple. Haiku skal indeholde natur og skal foregå i nutid. Digtsamlingen HAIKU er skrevet i en overordnet struktur af årets 12 måneder. Hver måned har tolv digte for at afspejle Haikudigtets formstruktur af fem og syv stavelser. Om forfatteren Tvillingerne Søren & Morten Ellemose (f. 1972) har skrevet mere end 30 bøger. HAIKU er den første en planlagt serie af digtsamlinger.
