José María Sánchez-Silva (Madrid, 1911-2002) fue famoso como escritor de obras destinadas al público infantil y juvenil, obtuvo el Premio Nacional de Literatura en 1957 y el Premio Andersen en 1968. Esta antología está formada por tres volúmenes. El primero reúne una serie de cuentos para adultos con un prólogo del propio autor y una nota introductoria escrita por el experto Emilio Pascual. En el segundo se recoge una selección de los artículos publicados a lo largo de sus cincuenta años de profesión periodística con una introducción a cargo de Enrique de Aguinaga. El tercero está dedicado a recopilar sus relatos infantiles y juveniles, incluyéndose entre ellos su famoso Marcelino pan y vino. El propio José María Sánchez-Silva realizó la selección de las obras que componen estos tres volúmenes.
