Romaani herätti aikanaan voimakkaita reaktioita aina paheksunnasta ylistykseen. Kirja palkittiin ilmestymisvuotenaan J. H. Erkon palkinnolla. Tytti Parras (1943–2018) oli suomalainen kirjailija, joka tunnetaan erityisesti aikansa kohuromaanista "Jojo" (1968). Parras voitti urallaan muun muassa J.H. Erkon palkinnon sekä useita Tampereen kaupungin kirjallisuuspalkintoja.
