He asettuvat tyhjäksi jääneeseen taloon, jossa asuvat yhteiset vuotensa. Nuoruudessaan Broms opiskeli taiteita Pariisissa ja Lontoossa, mutta luki myös Helsingin yliopistossa hetken lakia. Hän oli 1930-luvulla sekaantunut juutalaisten salakuljettamiseen ja passien väärentämiseen, jota johti Algot Niska. Broms tuomittiin vankilaan väärennöksistä ja petoksista. Hän oli viidesti naimisissa, hummaili yhden vaimon perinnön ja muutaman muun rahat. Hän seurusteli myös Emmi Jurkan kanssa. Oliko hän Jussi Jurkan isä?
