Gennem sit liv rejste hun til dele af Asien som de færreste vesterlændinge havde besøgt i hendes tid, blandt andet det tidligere lukkede land Nepal. Fra hendes yderligere rejser til andre lande som Indonesien, Thailand, Burma og Indien samlede hun genstande til et museum på den præstegård hun boede på i Ronæs. Desuden skrev hun en række bøger om sine rejser, hvor hun med en sjælden indsigt beskrev en hidtil ukendt verden for danskerne.
