"Den underlige harmoni" er litteraturhistoriker og Dr.phil. Jens Kruuses opfølgningsværk til bogen "Den ny virkelighed" (1948). Bogen giver dels et bud på en læsning af Agnar Mykles skandaleombruste roman "Sangen om den røde rubin" (1956), dels et forslag til en generel læsningsstrategi af forskellige genrer såsom det lyriske digt, skuespillet og romanen. Jens Kruuse (1908-1978) var en dansk forfatter, litteraturhistoriker, dr.phil, kritiker og modstandsmand. Han var dansk lektor ved det franske universitet Sorbonne, docent ved Aarhus Universitet og modtager af Holberg-medaljen for sit store arbejde inden for dansk litteraturforskning. Jens Kruuses forfatterskab tæller blandt andet "Det følsomme drama" (1934), "Digtere og traditioner" (1939) "Holbergs maske" (1964), "Storm P. som samfundskritiker" (1972) og "En poetisk kriger - Ludvig Holberg" (1978)
