Sarjan osat kuvaavat tavallisen kansan elämää Pohjanmaalla. Pietari Päivärinta (1827–1913) oli suomalainen kirjailija ja lukkari. Ylivieskalainen Päivärinta työskenteli 12-vuotiaasta lähtien renkinä, mutta pääsi myöhemmin lukkarinoppiin. Päivärinnan esikoisteos julkaistiin vuonna 1867. "Seurakunnan kosto" -niminen kertomus käsittelee isonvihan aikoja.
