Framtidens skugga [1920] är Edith Södergrans fjärde diktsamling. Tematiskt inte lika hårt spänd som de tidigare. Till stor del ägnad kärleksguden Eros, såsom ett förborgat mänskligt potential. Som det heter i dikten »Eros hemlighet«: »Jag känner dig, Eros – / du är icke man och kvinna, / du är den kraft, / som sitter nedhukad i templet […]«.<br><br>EDITH SÖDERGRAN [1892–1923] hör till de allra största namnen i svenskspråkig poesi. En av den svenska lyriska modernismens pionjärer; inspiratör till poeter som Gunnar Björling och Elmer Diktonius. Influerad av fransk symbolism, tysk expressionism och rysk futurism, har Södergrans dikt också en för svensk poesi ovanligt internationalistisk prägel. Hennes mest omtalade tema är det feministiska, som har sin särart genom influensen från tyske filosofen Friedrich Nietzsche; inte minst övermänniskoidealet.
