La diputada socialista chilena Isabel Allende, hija del ex presidente Salvador Allende, fue la encargada de impartir la conferencia en el acto de inauguración de la XXIV edición de la Universitat d'Estiu de Gandia, el 9 de julio de 2007, bajo el nombre 'Gobernabilidad y cohesión social: el caso de Chile'. En ella, Allende resaltó no sólo la importancia que tiene para países como Chile recuperar la democracia, sino que es igual de necesario legitimar el sistema, conseguir la cohesión social y establecer unas adecuadas políticas públicas. Se refirió al hecho de que los gobiernos deberían desarrollar una red de protección social que termine con las diferencias sociales y pueda proteger a los ciudadanos desde su nacimiento hasta la edad más madura. Se trataría de articular un sistema más solidario y de modificar leyes para conseguir la igualdad entre ciudadanos.
