John Henry Newman (Londra, 21 febbraio 1801 – Edgbaston, 11 agosto 1890) è stato un cardinale, teologo e filosofo inglese, venerato come santo dalla Chiesa Cattolica. Già presbitero anglicano, visse con disagio la fase di secolarismo in cui si trovava la Chiesa d'Inghilterra nel XIX secolo: entrato a far parte del Movimento di Oxford, ne divenne uno degli animatori. Convertitosi al cattolicesimo, fu di nuovo ordinato prete nella Chiesa cattolica, impiantando sul suolo britannico la società di vita apostolica degli Oratoriani, di cui aveva deciso di essere membro. Elevato al cardinalato nel 1879 da Leone XIII, morì nel 1890. Beatificato il 19 settembre 2010 da papa Benedetto XVI, è stato proclamato santo il 13 ottobre 2019 da papa Francesco.
