Vihtori Johan Peltonen), joka syntyi 18.lokakuuta Askolassa 1896 ja kuoli Helsingissä 10. elokuuta 1913. Hänen kirjojensa kantavia teemoja ovat syyllisyyden, rangaistuksen ja sovituksen moraaliset ongelmat. Hänen tunnetuin teoksensa on Laulu tulipunaisesta kukasta, jonka lisäksi hän on kirjoittanut useita muita romaaneja, näytelmiä ja novelleja. Ennen kirjailijaksi ryhtymistä Linnankoski työskenteli toimittajana Uusimaa-lehdessä.
