Jest uznawana za jedną z najwybitniejszych polskich twórców literatury dla dzieci. W utworach dla najmłodszych budowała fikcyjne światy bliskie dziecięcej wyobraźni. Codzienną rzeczywistość często mieszała z fantastyką i motywami baśniowymi (np. „Na jagody", „O krasnoludkach i sierotce Marysi", „Szkolne przygody Pimpusia Sadełko").
