Uuno Kailaan viides runokokoelma "Uni ja kuolema" julkaistiin vuonna 1931 vain kaksi vuotta ennen runoilijan traagista kuolemaa. Kokoelman runot liikkuvat mystisessä välitilassa unen ja kuoleman rajamailla – kuin Kailas olisi aavistanut oman kohtalonsa.<br><br>Uuno Kailas (1901–1933) oli suomalainen runoilija ja kääntäjä. Hänen tunnetuimpia teoksiaan ovat "Silmästä silmään" (1926) sekä "Paljain jaloin" (1928), jotka molemmat voittivat valtion kirjallisuuspalkinnon. Kailas kuoli vain 31-vuotiaana tuberkuloosiin. Hänen elämänsä oli ollut vaikeaa myös skitsofrenian ja tukahdetun homoseksuaalisuuden vuoksi. Kailas saavutti lyhyen elämänsä aikana arvostetun aseman suomalaisen kirjallisuuden kentällä, ja hänen muistojulkaisuunsa kirjoittivat esimerkiksi Katri Vala ja Mika Waltari.
