De Vlaamse auteur Stefan Hertmans (1951) is in Nederland vooral bekend als romancier, zeker sinds hij met de prachtige autobiografische roman Oorlog en terpentijn de AKO Literatuurprijs en de Gouden Boekenuil Publieksprijs won. Maar naast schrijver van romans, verhalenbundels, essays en theaterteksten, is Hertmans bovenal dichter. Samen met zijn broer Peter Hertmans brengt hij zijn gedichten op muziek. Open de deur van het gedicht

Pfeijffer dicht als niemand ooit tevoren. Hij viel de poëzie binnen als Genghis Khan. Zijn verzengende verzen verpletterden de horigen die rilden van angst en ontzag. En toen zweeg hij. Zeven jaar dacht hij na over de wereld en de woorden. En nu is er Idyllen: een vloedgolf van zilte vragen en zwarte conclusies die zwelt als de zee bij nacht, terwijl de verlaten sloepen kraken in de haven en netten van vissers huilen. In de klassieke vorm van rijmende alexandrijnen, die komen en gaan als golven over kiezels, spoelen steeds meer zekerheden weg. De winter komt. Waarschijnlijk zijn dit de laatste idyllen die we zullen horen.

114 gedichten bevat de gedichten uit de bundels Manke vliegen (1963), Almanak (1965) en God en Godin (1967). Daarnaast zijn hierin opgenomen Poems in English (1953) en een afdeling `verspreide gedichten . Deze bundeling is een vervolg op de verzameluitgave 126 gedichten. Beide uitgaven presenteerden aan het eind van de jaren zestig het grootste deel van Vromans poëzie.

In Berichten van het front hervat Anna Enquist de grootse en bittere expeditie die ze voor de duur van één bundel (haar vorige, Hoor de stad) had opgeschort: 'het losmaken/ van de dochter uit ons'. Losmaken ook om de verlorene vervolgens weer in het wild te kunnen aantreffen. Maar nooit eerder werd er zo systematisch en verbeten jacht gemaakt als nu. In vier keer tien gedichten wordt het ontbrekende kind gezocht in de onderwereld, de witte koude van het hooggebergte, de omringende natuur en de jacht van het spel. De buit? 'Wantrouw / de woorden. Luister goed. En koester de muziek.' Over Berichten van het front: 'De "Demetercyclus" van Enquist raakte me diep. Berichten van het front

De wereld lijkt langzaam in een donkere nacht te verdwijnen en dat vraagt om reactie. Yannick Dangre gaat in dit vijfluik op zoek naar wat de wereld en onszelf bezighoudt en hoe die beide op elkaar inwerken. We kunnen de buitenwereld immers alleen begrijpen door onze binnenwereld, de nacht slechts aan de hand van de navel. Nu eens hard, dan weer vol empathie, maar altijd lyrisch ontleedt Dangre wat een dichter deze tijd nog te bieden heeft. Geloof me, mijn lief, er is geen wereld die zichzelf niet als onze navel ziet.

Nacht en navel

De ‘Hotsy Totsy Club’ in de Hoogstraat in Gent was vanaf 1973 de place-to-be voor de artistieke incrowd van Vlaanderen en Nederland. Onder de begeesterde leiding van Guido en Motte Claus was deze kroeg de ontmoetingsplaats voor creatievelingen. Daar waren Hugo Claus, broer van Guido, en zijn vrienden vaste en graag geziene stamgasten en daar was het dat Steef Verwée, als jong muzikant, bevriend werd met dé grootmeester van de Nederlandse Letteren. Daar vond in 1983 de première plaats van Het Verdriet van België, het meesterwerk van Hugo Claus, meer bepaald op 17 maart. 25 jaar later, op 19 maart 2008, nam Hugo op waardige wijze afscheid van het leven, hij koos zelf om op deze manier te sterven, vandaar de titel Nee, ik beslis. Het luisterboek Nee, ik beslis is opgevat als eerbetoon aan de Heer Hugo Claus en omvat twaalf gedichten gekozen in nauw overleg en in samenspraak met de dichter. De gedichten werden getoonzet door Steef Verwée, oorspronkelijk voor de muziektheaterproductie Claus on the Rocks die in 1978 in première ging in het theater Arena te Gent. In het luisterboek worden deze gedichten vertolkt door Steef Verwée. De song In Memoriam Ferdi komt uit de musical Casanova, gecomponeerd in 1987 in opdracht van het Arca (Tinnenpot) Theater te Gent. Voor Claus on the Rocks vertrouwde Claus tien ‘liedteksten’ toe aan Verwée. Deze teksten waren oorspronkelijk geschreven voor Liesbeth List maar werden door de zangeres ter zijde gelegd. Deze teksten werden eveneens door Verwée op muziek gezet en exclusief in het programma verwerkt, toen in het theater Arena en ook nu in dit luisterboek gezongen door Patricia Beysens. Deze teksten werden niet gepubliceerd en geven daarom een genuanceerd beeld van de uitzonderlijke gaven van Claus als woordkunstenaar. Een derde luik is voorbehouden voor de meester zelf, Hugo Claus leest zeven gedichten (ontmoeting, devotie, huwelijk, ongenoegen, reaktie, dekadentie, berusting). De aanwezigheid van de originele stem van de dichter geeft een absolute en blijvende meerwaarde. De studio opnames dateren van 1985, jaar waarin Steef Verwée zijn TEO of The Erotic Opera componeerde op erotische teksten van Engelstalige dichters, première in theater Arena en tegelijk in de Stadsschouwburg van Amsterdam. Hugo Claus verleende zijn medewerking aan TEO in de vorm van zeven gedichten als exclusieve bindteksten tussen de thematische opera-acts, deze werden bij elke uitvoering live uitgestuurd. Nee, ik beslis, waarvan Motje Claus met genoegen en fierheid het meterschap aanvaardt, is een ode opgedragen aan het werk van Hugo Claus en bedoeld om de geest en het talent van de meester voor eeuwig te laten verder leven... Nee, ik beslis

Het alledaagse bijzonder maken, de ernst met humor omgeven, zoet en zuur mengen tot een nieuwe smaak, mistroostigheid met optimisme te lijf gaan, vragen stellen die nieuwe vragen oproepen: dat is wat de gedichten van Jaap Robben doen. In toegankelijke taal werpt Jaap Robben nieuw licht op gedachten en gevoelens die herkenbaar zijn maar niet altijd herkend worden. Het is alsof je samen met hem, gezellig onder een paraplu, door een verrekijker naar de wereld tuurt en je voortdurend verbaast over het aards gewemel.

's Nachts verdwijnt de wereld

In het poëziedebuut van Libris Literatuur Prijs-winnaar Rob van Essen blijft in toegankelijke, troostende gedichten niets onbesproken: leven, liefde, dood en doem. Met ‘Alleen de warme dagen waren echt’ debuteert Rob van Essen als dichter. Elke overeenkomst met zijn romans en verhalenbundels berust op toeval, al is er ook hier sprake van ontregeling en herkenning, melancholie en ontroering. Van Essens poëzie is toegankelijk maar niet zonder verborgen betekenissen, met aandacht voor de mensen op straat en de bewegingen van het eigen hart. Leven, liefde, dood en doem – niets blijft onbesproken. Een melodische, troostrijke bundel waarin zomerse en winterse dagen elkaar afwisselen en het besef van eindigheid wordt bestreden met verdriet, aanstekelijke vrolijkheid en serene berusting.

Alleen de warme dagen waren echt

In 1974 maakte de Nederlandse musicus en componist Theo Loevendie een muzikale bewerking van De nachtegaal, het schitterende sprookje van Hans Christian Andersen. Sindsdien is deze compositie over de hele wereld vele malen uitgevoerd. Kees van Kooten schreef een gloednieuwe, sprankelende tekst bij deze muziek, die hij zelf voordraagt, onder begeleiding van Het Noord Nederlands Orkest, met dirigent Hans Leenders. Naast deze orkestversie bevat deze download ook een kamerensembleuitvoering. De kinderen kunnen hierbij, al 'karaokend', zelf de rol van verteller spelen. De dag- en nachtegaal

Na de publicatie van zijn verzamelde gedichten in 2005 verrast Stefan Hertmans met een nieuwe bundel, waarin de beste elementen uit zijn werk triomferen: een open oog voor de wereld, een gepassioneerde mengeling van kosmopolitisme en intimiteit, een bondige stijl in combinatie met een grote beeldende kracht. Een wereld van verloren dingen

Hoe keren we terug tot onszelf anders dan door de bladzijde om Te vouwen en zo de spannende passage te markeren In zijn uiterst persoonlijke tweede dichtbundel De tijd is een moeder gaat Ocean Vuong op zoek naar manieren om te leven na de dood van zijn moeder. Er is rouw, maar ook de overtuiging dat hij daaruit kan komen. Hij worstelt met zijn eigen verlies, maar ook met het gegeven dat hij rechtstreeks het product is van de oorlog in Vietnam, een thema dat we herkennen uit Vuongs indrukwekkende roman Op aarde schitteren we even. Zijn gedichten zijn sprankelend, compromisloos en onontkoombaar en maken voelbaar hoe het is om te leven als de bodem onder een verscheurd bestaan wegvalt. Vuongs eerste bundel Night Sky with Exit Wounds werd bekroond met de Whiting Award (2016) en de T.S. Eliot Prize (2017) en hij werd in 2019 benoemd tot MacArthur-fellow. Zijn poëzie is bij uitstek menselijk, en daar hoort een scherp oog voor de maatschappelijke werkelijkheid bij. In De tijd is een moeder experimenteert Vuong op een vernieuwende en gedurfde manier met taal en vorm, zonder dat de inhoud abstract wordt. Hij aarzelt niet om eeuwig terugkerende levensvragen steeds opnieuw te stellen. De tijd is een moeder is een eerbetoon aan de kracht van zachtheid in tijden van geweld.

De tijd is een moeder

'De meeste rijke meiden met wie ik het in mijn Gooise jeugd heb gedaan of graag had willen doen wonen er nog steeds en zijn veel beter getrouwd dan mijn vrouw.' Aldus Youp van 't Hek die op zijn inmiddels bekende, kleurrijke wijze terugkijkt op zijn jongensjaren en op die meisjes met hun kniekousen en parelkettingen, hun hockeyclub en ongecompliceerde au pair-tijd in Parijs. Een cynische ondertoon ontbreekt dikwijls niet. In de andere verhalen die deze bundel bevat toont Van 't Hek zich een wat ernstiger observator, vol mededogen en inzicht in de mensen die hem omringen. Ook is in Rijke meiden een aantal gedichten opgenomen die deze uitgave tot een rijk geschakeerd werk maken, van de schrijver Youp van 't Hek. Youp van 't Hek (1954) is naast cabaretier en columnist, schrijver. Zijn eerste boek Rijke Meiden met verhalen en gedichten werd meteen een groot succes. Leaves of Grass by American poet Walt Whitman was first published in 1855. The work was an attempt at reaching out to the common person with an American epic (a lengthy narrative poem.) He continued expanding and revising it until his death in 1892. The work started as a collection of 12 unnamed poems. However, Whitman spent most of his life writing and re-writing Leaves of Grass, resulting in many different editions published throughout his life. The final collection, which is recorded here, is a compilation of about 400 poems separated into 35 books. This book is notable for its discussion of delight in sensual pleasures and exalting the body and the material world. At the time, such candid displays were considered highly immoral, which led to reviews considering it "offensive", "obscene", "a mass of stupid filth", or suggesting it should have been burned after writing. Leaves of Grass even became banned in various locations, which only led to increased sales, with some printings even selling out on the first day. To this day, the work's legacy remains strong, and is one of the most important collections of American poetry. Among some of the best-known poems contained in this work are "O captain! Why I Was Late

The title of this novel is a combination of two Sanskrit words, “siddha,” which is defined as “achieved,” and “artha” which is defined as “meaning” or “wealth.” The word serves as the name for the principal character, a man on a spiritual journey of self-discovery during the time of the first Buddha. Siddhartha is the son of a wealthy Brahmin family who decides to leave his home in the hopes of gaining spiritual illumination. Siddhartha is joined by his best friend Govinda. The two renounce their earthly possessions, engage in ritual fasting and intense meditation and ultimately seek out and speak with Gautama, the original Buddha.
