The Spare Room
The absolute must-have forced proximity, friends to lovers romantic comedy to read this year!
Description of book
Two unexpected flatmates. One shared space. Will they cross the line into love?
Rosie had the perfect evening lined up: she'd come home early, slip into a sexy dress and surprise her boyfriend with date night. What she was not expecting was to find his bags packed and herself unceremoniously dumped.
But she can't even think about her heartbreak when she faces the more pressing matter of making rent this month. And in desperate times, she agrees to let out her spare room to her elusive upstairs neighbour.
Aled needs somewhere to stay while his place is being renovated, and she gets to keep her home. It's a win-win situation... At least in theory.
For Rosie has sworn off men indefinitely, and never saw herself living with one so soon after her breakup. But being in Aled's company day in, day out has this annoying habit of playing havoc with her heart...
On paper they're just flatmates, but could there be room for more between them?
The ultimate forced proximity, slow-burn romcom to get your hands on, for fans of Beth O'Leary, Portia MacIntosh and Mhairi McFarlane.

A brilliantly funny and emotional book, you can't help but fall in love with Rosie and the mystery Welsh man who moves in. I highly recommend the audiobook, the narrator is perfect 😊

I haven't been truly gutted about a book ending in decades, I am literally heartbroken that this one is, I need more Rosie and Aled, plus Rhiann and everyone else too. Absolutely fabulous book for an old romantic like me plus was really funny. I couldn't stop listening and whenever I put it on for a chapter or two whilst I had a short time, I always ended up listening to at least quadruple that. I literally got to the point where I was dreading the end as it got closer, I really hope the author makes a sequel, would love more of these characters, maybe a wedding or birth? Literally wish the characters were real, would love to be Rhiann's friend and Niamh. Please write more!!!!!

I wish I had read the comments beforehand. It had too much backstory with hours before the break-up and before MFC and the MMC even spoke and moved in together - which we knew would happen from the plot. A slow-burn can be nice but a few moments of almost-getting-there-but-not-quite and then the final build up ending behind closed doors. So frustrating. No spice whatsoever. It was a pretty sweet love story but it wasn’t what I had expected. If I had known I wouldn’t have continued past a couple of hours in.

Very good book. Gives a hope to many that ending relationship is not the end of the world and that sometimes this could be a good thing. Beginning of a better life. Enjoyed that a lot ☺️
