Medical student Amy Brenner is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward. Amy has been dreading her evening working on Ward D, the hospital’s inpatient mental health unit. There are very specific reasons why she never wanted to do this required overnight rotation. Reasons nobody can ever find out. And as the hours tick by, Amy grows increasingly convinced something terrible is happening within these tightly secured walls. When patients and staff start to vanish without a trace, it becomes clear that everyone on the unit is in grave danger. Amy’s worst nightmare was spending the night on Ward D. And now she might never escape.

The alternative timelines, added context to the build up of the story, and the plot twists, added new layers of complexity throughout the book, making this book worth the listen. Spoiler ***** Amy suffers from the occasional auditory hallucinations.

Tylsähkö alku joka ei oikein paremmaksi muutu. Olin jo melko varma että olin arvannut juonen idean mutta turns out I was wrong. Loppu ei tosin yllättänyt. Ei parhaita tämän kirjailijan teoksia.

This was one of the worst books ever, which is insane because I love the author otherwise. The main character is beyond naive and immature, unprofessional to the point where it's unbearably unrealistic. I doubt that anyone studying medicine would say "NoO IM NoT!!" like a school girl if a patient at a mental hospital calls them something. And that they would argue with one patient regarding another patient's medication, or talk about getting a coffee with a patient when they get out.

I must say this has got to be my least favoured book by Freida McFadden that I’ve read (I’ve read 7 others). I felt like I was waiting for a kick, and the kick just didn’t come. I would say that my most favoured books my her are: The housemaid series (specifically books 1 & 2) and The boyfriend. This book did not have me at the edge of my seat, which I was quite sad for.
