How Was It for You?
Stories from a Sex Worker
Description of book
The author of How Was It for You? is a sex worker.
Let’s call her Eve.
Eve is someone’s daughter. Someone’s partner.
Eve has worked across the sex industry for twenty years: in a brothel, as an escort, in a strip club, online and as a dominatrix. In this candid memoir she reveals all: the good stuff, the bad, and the downright ugly too.
We’re with her poolside as she sips Champagne at a wealthy client’s Caribbean villa. We scurry with her from a gated mansion as a fun threesome gets out of hand. We watch from the public gallery as she is dragged in and out of court by the law. We perch at her side in a cell as she contemplates the true meaning of freedom. And we’re at the brothel when she meets Adam, a punter who turns out to be a keeper.
Honest, eye-opening, full of fury and frequently funny, How Was It for You? is a unique insight into what’s happening in society’s shadows and an unforgettable walk in someone else’s high heels.

Loved this. Was so eye opening. Really enjoyed the stories of some of the clients but also totally made aware that some sex workers actively choose to work in the industry and enjoy it and deserve protection for it.I recommend

- I think this book was amazing. The author and sex-worker talks via a pen-name about her struggles and her interesting moments of her life.

For me, it feels like the author has some trauma to solve. But she sounds honest. This story makes you want to decriminalise brothels, because here, the police is not their friend. This also makes it way more dangerous for women to do their work in this industry.
It's not a five star book for me, because I would have loved to hear some arguments of the other parties which are against legalising brothels and sex-work and that was a bit missing.Book★4

- Bin leider mit der Autorin nicht warm geworden. An vielen Stellen widerspricht sich die Story selbst in den Glaubenssätzen und für mich war es zu viel schwarz-weiss-Denken.

Gave a lot of food for thought regarding sex work, the ‘class system’ and women’s rights. I did feel a lot of the good points were overshadowed by the tone of this book. Eve appeared to hate women - the internalised misogyny leaked into every chapter. She seemed to dislike people judging her and her work, but made judgemental comments about how other women choose to live. Her catty comments towards other women felt a lot like jealousy, perhaps envious that other women had got through life without falling into the industry. For the road trip
She talked about how this book was written to try and shake the sex worker stigma (that the only reason women get into sex work is when they’re impoverished and/or have some kind of traumatic past).
However every story of her life that she recounts, unfortunately, reflects the media portrayal of sex workers and the upsetting reasons women can find themselves in the industry.Book★2
