"Björntämjarens barn" börjar och slutar i det nordvästskånska samhället Klippan, där de fyra syskonen kommer till världen vid förra seklets början som barn till cirkusfolk, en svensk björntämjare och en ungersk trapetsartist. Björntämjarens skugga vilar tungt över barnen. På grund av skilsmässa och en ensamstående moders tidiga död placeras syskonen ut i olika fosterhem. Den dramatiska berättelsen är en resa mellan olika livshistoriska stationer och situationer, en berättelse präglad av ljus och mörker, vemod och sorg, skratt och tårar.
