Moby Dick
Description of book
Widely considered one of the great American novels, Herman Melville's masterpiece went largely unread during his lifetime and was out of print at the time of his death in 1891. Called the greatest book about the sea ever written by D.H. Lawrence, Moby Dick features detailed descriptions of whale hunting and whale oil extraction as well as beautiful, incisive writing on race, class, religion, art, and society. The story, loosely based on a real whaling shipwreck, features the unforgettable, vengeful Captain Ahab, who obsessively hunts a great white whale who bit his leg off below the knee.

The story itself in this book s great - it is definitely a classic for a reason! However, the story and character evolution is only a fairly small portion of this book, and a whole lot of it is what I would qualify as filler; some of it has interesting parts to it, but much of it is like listening to a school book as it meticulously goes over details about whales, ships and whaling in general. I think this book could easily be edited to be half as long and be much, much better for it.

This was like the 100th time to start this book (My third time audiobook). At last DONE ✅. I found the book so boring, as if it’s biology class. It was difficult to concentrate and my brain went wondering so often and needed to go back again and again. The storyline is epic. It’s one of the stories we know (older generations) because it was told to us in theatre, schools, music and movies. The only reason I wanted to read this book, because it was said it is one of the must read books before you die.

Intruiging story with good charachters. Great story of old times and life on a whaling boat.
