The unmissable speculative thriller from the author of The One
From John Marrs, the bestselling author of The One. Set in the same world, and narrated by a full cast, The Marriage Act is a dark, high-concept thriller.
‘One of the most exciting original thriller writers’ - Simon Kernick, author of Good Cop Bad Cop
What if marriage was the law? Dare you disobey?
Britain. The near-future. A right-wing government believes it has the answer to society’s ills – the Sanctity of Marriage Act, which actively encourages marriage as the norm, punishing those who choose to remain single.
But four couples are about to discover just how impossible relationships can be when the government is monitoring every aspect of our personal lives, tracking every word, every minor disagreement . . . and will use every tool in its arsenal to ensure everyone will love, honour and obey.
Black Mirror meets thriller with a dash of Naomi Alderman’s The Power.

Unpredictable book! Makes you question reality and possible outcomes. Shines a light on dangerous waters that are being navigated with technology and social media. In think narration was great. Added to the story

Oh my gosh! I am so tempted to give it a second listen straight away. One of the best books I've listened to or read in a long time. Both the plot and the characters draw you in and keep you wanting to know where things are leading and what will happen next. The characters felt so real in that while I hated parts of them/their behaviour I would still sympathise with most of them. A brilliant and thought provoking look at human behaviour and the future we could end up in.

Amazing. Just brilliant and very close to the bone. If you know you know. I nearly gave up after 3 hours it was a very long confusing introduction but I am so so glad I stuck with it. Absolutely brilliant 👏

I don’t usually read acknowledgements, but I did listen to it on this just for a little more after the book came to a twisted and abrupt end (in a good way) - in fact the acknowledgments made me tear up a bit. I listened to the next book first so did it backwards, but it was great like a prequel for me. The narrators are faultless and the writing is stunning. I hope I can find another book by this guy!
