The hottest debut novel of 2023 from Schitt’s Creek and Smothered screenwriter and an Observer debut author of the year, Monica Heisey.
Maggie’s marriage has ended just 608 days after it started, but she’s fine – she’s doing really good, actually. Sure, she’s alone for the first time and can’t afford her rent and her obscure PhD is going nowhere… but at the age of twenty-nine, Maggie is determined to embrace her new status as a Surprisingly Young Divorcée™.
As Maggie throws herself headlong into the chaos of her first year of divorce, she soon finds herself questioning everything, including: Why do we still get married? Did I fail before I even got started? And how many 4am delivery burgers do I need to eat until I am happy?
Really Good, Actually is an irresistible debut novel about the uncertainties of modern love, friendship and happiness.

Upbeat look at the pain of divorce. Main character is self absorbed at first, but that feels deliberate. Good read for someone upset about a breakup, I imagine. Engaging for the rest of us.

FINALLY!!! I’ve been waiting for a book to end like this and thank goood it was this. This is such a truthful story about life after a significant breakup it had me laugh out loud many, MANY times. And also cringe. About myself in the past and the protagonist in the moment. And most of all it ends joyful. And without the settling for an ending people are expecting. But instead, an ending that is real. But therefore just so wonderful. Because finally you can find yourself in the ending of a book without having to look into the possible and might-not-happen-future. So a big thank you to the author for this.

This book is SO alarmingly relatable as I recognized myself in so many situations. This book embodies one of the most tender -written story, themed around heartbreak and starting over. I missed it after closing the book.
