The Good Girl
Description of book
Grace Murphy doesn’t seem like the type of woman who’d have a man cable-tied to a chair, slowly dying in her house. She keeps to herself and goes through life relatively unnoticed, working as a barista and caring for her sister, providing her with wholesome meals and a clean home—things they never had as children…
Det. Garda Jerry Hughes knows about Grace’s brutal and troubled childhood; his own life was profoundly affected by it.
Jerry still checks in on the sisters from time to time. But at the moment, he’s distracted by work. Men have been going missing in the city—and they seem to have nothing in common aside from a physical resemblance to someone from Grace Murphy’s past…

A truly unputdownable story, this book grips you from the very first page and refuses to let go. The narrative delves deep into dark, weighty themes, exploring the shadows of human experience with unflinching honesty. Yet what truly sets it apart are the morally grey characters — complex, flawed, and heartbreakingly real. Their interactions are gracefully bittersweet, adding layers of depth and nuance that linger long after the final chapter. A haunting, unforgettable read.

Very well written, well constructed, interesting story. What I really liked about it is that the story is about people who really are at the bottom of the society but they are portrayed very humanely. Loved it. There are gruesome scenes, but also moments that I cried. I loved the fact that the narrator has a beautiful Irish accent, what is a great fit of course.

This is not for the fainthearted , I had to take breaks from this to read something light and cosy half way through, for those who have been through abuse and have not had treatment for it do not read it as it may bring back your trauma with negative effects
