Description of book

Three impossible tasks, a witch, a brave maiden, a fairy godmother, an evil king - all the classic fairytale elements I love. Add a disgraced knight, a dog made of bones, and a demon-possessed chicken, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a quest. The characters go on a journey to save the maiden’s sister, and despite all the horror elements, it’s weirdly funny. Very fast read (or listen), and I had a great time! 4/5 ⭐

An overall nice read, I really enjoyed the relationships and how they were explored so humanly that it didn't even make me question them. If I had read this at a different time I might have enjoyed it even more. It explores deep topics such as grief, feelings of uselessness/powerlessness, domestic violence and many more. So, even though I found it a cozy read, it can be triggering for some people.

Ein originelles ein wenig gruselige Märchen, in dem die Prinzessin sich mit einer Handvoll Gefährten auf den Weg macht, den bösen Prinzen zu töten. Die Autorin hat mit diesem Buch den diesjährigen Hugo Award gewonnen und es ist wirklich ungeheuer gut. Sie nimmt die üblichen Bausteine von Märchen - drei Schwestern, einen Prinzen, drei Aufgaben, eine Hexe, verzauberte Tiere, zwei gute oder vielleicht nicht ganz so gute Feen, die neugeborenen Kindern Wünsche mit auf den Weg ins Leben geben - und baut daraus etwas völlig Neues und Unerwartetes. Auf jeden Fall lesenswert.

Listening to a rescue mission would be more interesting if the characters had a mission planned and didn’t just worry about what to do for the first 75% of the book.
