A Room Full of Killers
Description of book
‘DCI Matilda Darke is the perfect heroine’ Elly Griffiths
The third book in Michael Wood’s darkly compelling crime series featuring DCI Matilda Darke. Perfect for fans of Peter James, Lee Child and Karin Slaughter.
Eight killers. One house. And the almost perfect murder…
Starling House is home to some of the nation’s deadliest teenagers, still too young for prison.
When the latest arrival is found brutally murdered, DCI Matilda Darke and her team investigate, and discover a prison manager falling apart and a sabotaged security system. Neither the staff nor the inmates can be trusted.
The only person Matilda believes is innocent is facing prison for the rest of his life. With time running out, she must solve the unsolvable to save a young man from his fate, and find a murderer in a house full of killers…

The overall idea of the plot is quite good. BUT the amount of names and new characters does make it hard to follow and the author has not helped the reader navigate it. Loads of names are similar (harkley vs harkness, Tom vs Thomas, Ryan vs. Brian,…) and on top of that multiple characters turn out to actually have a different name and then the names are being used interchangeably. Parts of the story especially regarding police force work seem implausible. By now DI Dark should be suspended at least. And the recurring jokes about „Shans Snackdrawer“ that were already used up in the previous book just do get old. This far along in the series I am missing deeper insight into DI Darks mental and emotional state as well as richer back stories for the other characters that could well have developed by now as there is a lot of potential.
