Seeds of Murder
The start of an unputdownable British cozy crime mystery series perfect for 2025!
Description of book
Steph Williams has arrived at the wealthy, gated community of Beaulieu Heights ready to start her new position as head gardener. Surrounded by mansions and acres of land, it's worlds apart from the life she knows, but she's determined to give it her best shot.
If she happens to accidentally overhear private conversations while trimming the bushes, or is refused access to a locked shed, she knows not to question it - after all, gardeners should be seen and not heard.
Until notes start turning up, threatening to reveal the deepest secrets of the residents. Suddenly Steph finds herself the prime suspect, and now she must leave the shelter of the gardens behind to clear her name and save her job.
The seeds of suspicion have been planted, but the case is turning out to be no bed of roses. And when the investigation puts her life at risk, Steph is up against the clock to weed out the real culprit before it's too late...
Perfect for fans of Richard Coles, Fiona Leitch and Sarah Yarwood-Lovett, introducing a brand-new cosy crime series set in the gardening world featuring an unlikely amateur sleuth and her loveable dog.

The story was quite interesting, although I doubt any real person would have been so forgiving – so there was a lot of suspension of disbelief about interhuman relationships involved. Another damper on the listening pleasure was that the audio did not pass through a sufficiently thorough post-production check; the pauses mid-sentence were at times too long and jarring, while the pauses between two sentences were so short that I had a hard time grasping the two distinct sentences. I must admit I was also upset at the speaker pronouncing “La Jolla” like it was related to the word ‘jolly’, and “chaise longue” as if it was written ‘chaise lounge’ – although that might have actually been the author’s fault, if it was really written “lounge”.

Impossible to listen too. Good book but narration edit is TERRIBLE. Voices make no sense, pauses in a middle of a sentence, volume up and down in the same conversation. Changes to intonation. Each character has at least 3 different accents. Confusing and just BAD.

The plot is not strong enough to justify 11 hours of listening. However, the biggest issue is the audio edit. There are strange pauses midsentence and at times it’s hard to tell who is supposed to be speaking.
